You “heard” it!
I’ve just made our first preset kit for Lightroom 4 available for download. This kit includes 7 brand new Vintage styled presets. We’ve done some vintage presets before but this time we are using the new engine of Lightroom 4 to do it. Even if LR4 was released yesterday, we know that many of you already got it installed on your computers. So this one is for you guys. I hope you enjoy them.

As you can see below, we’ve also updated our way of showing you the before / after images. This way it will be easier to see the difference between the original image and the processed :-)
My personal favorites are “PH Vintage III” and “PH Vintage VI” :-)

  1. Thanks, Pierre. I’m starting fresh with all new LR 4 presets; dumped all my old ones so I wouldn’t have to rework them. Housecleaning is good.

  2. hey peirre, is your lightroom 4 presetes can work also in lightroom 3? thanks very much! :)

  3. These look great! I’m having trouble installing these, however. Once I download, unzip the file and try to import it into Lightroom 4 it tells me “The preset file was the wrong type of preset”. Not sure what is going on…

  4. Hi Pierre, presets are great. One thing I have just noticed the adjustment sliders do not move with these new presets? Is this a bug or by design? I used you old presets for LR3 and the adjustment sliders move as expected.

  5. Hey Pierre,

Love your work here!!! Thank you for sharing!! I have been trying to download your cool vintage presets for LR4 but once I try to extract the file I get a message that there is nothing in the zip file;( Please help!!

    Thanks,
    Mario

  6. Hi Pierre,
thanks for the cool presets. I enjoyed it a lot applying them to some of my photos. Weird thing I noticed though was when I tried to see what sliders you used to create these vintage looks none of the sliders were moving. The only thing I noticed that changed was the “Tone Curve” changed slightly.
Did you achieve these looks just by changing the tone curve slightly?
    Cheers,
    Alex

  7. Hi Paul,
Everything’s just fine. The basic sliders are not modified in these presets. Please have a look in the NEW (LR4 only) Curves adjustments for each color channel ;-)
    Thanks, Pierre

  8. I have LR4 and the previous presets seem to work. But after reading Sunny’s comment about
dumping them so she doesn’t have to ‘rework’ them, I’m now concerned!? What does she mean?

  9. how can i install downloaded presets to my lightroom 4 installed already in my system ??

  10. hye pierre , your preset really stunning most picture . but can you make this preset for LR3 . pleasee :3

  11. Nikita u d/l these then save to we say ur desktop, open lightroom and go to user presets in the left hand bar where ur normal presets are and then right click and just import!

Pierre these are fantastic thank you very much. :)

  12. Hi Louis,
No, presets work just fine on JPEGs as well. But, some presets are made for RAW-files meaning they are better optimised/adjusted for it. You can however use them on JPEG images but most of the time you have to tweak the preset a little in order to make them look good.

  13. Hi Pierre, I love the presets and I am just starting with lightroom so maybe you could hel me (?)
whenever i download a preset it is (.ZIP) how do i change it ? or how can i use it/put it on lightroom?
    Thanks :)

  14. These presets are awesome (as already mentioned!) , thank you so much for making them available.

One question though: They seem to ‘reset’ some develop changes already applied.

    For eg:

I import images with Lens Correction & Chromatic Aberration corrections applied.

When I select and apply one of the Vintage presets, these edits reset and must be reapplied. This happens with any changes made to the photo prior to applying the vintage filter EXCEPT cropping (Highlight, clarity adjustments etc).

I’m using LR 4.1 on two different computers and the issue is the same – it doesn’t seem to happen to certain pre-installed filters that come with lightroom (ie. they apply themselves on top of existing edits).

Is there anything I can do to tweak this?

(Please note I’m not complaining – totally appreciative of the effort you’ve made – just that it would help smoothen things up if I could apply them on top of existing adjustments – I usually try to make the DNG image as best-edited as possible (White balance, highlights, clarity etc) before appying any presets whether they be B&W or vintage etc.)

    Your time is much appreciated!

    K

  15. Hi Kes,
    1. First. select/apply the preset you want to change.
    2. Right-click on the preset and select “Update…”
    3. Deselect the adjustments you don’t want to be applied
    4. Save.
    This should do the work.

    Thanks,
    Pierre

  16. Hey Pierre – I tried it (finally!) and unfortunately it doesn’t seem to make any changes – mostly because the Preset (eg Vintage iv) resets any changes made to the images.

    For eg:

A highlight value of -40 and a rotation of +0.5 gets reset when applying the filter to Highlight 0 and rotation 0. Therefore there is no data to update the preset with.

IF I right click the preset BEFORE applying it and check the Highlight and Lens Corrections – Transform boxes, and then apply it – the Preset gets reset and the beautiful look you’ve created goes out the window – the image looks exactly the same as before!

    – I do have a bunch of other presets however that , when applied, create an “!” mark under the viewing pane. Clicking this updates the process version to a more recent one. No such tab appears with your presets.

Once again I appreciate the assistance – it’s a puzzling thing as even presets I’ve created seem to have this ‘Reset’ ability whereas others I’ve downloaded (especially those that are pre-loaded with LR) apply themselves over the edits I’ve made.

    Cheers!

  17. Hi Pierre!
I must be blind… i don’t see the link to download these beautiful preset.
I know this post is getting old, maybe they’re discontinued?

Thank you in advence for your help :)
