Here comes another preset made by request, from Ole at our Facebook page. This is the story behind it…
Each camera has one or more profiles that controls the colors etc. when you shoot in JPEG. All this data is embedded into the JPEG file. When you shoot in RAW-mode, In short terms – that data is attached (not merged into the images) and you are able to adjust all settings before you export your photos to JPEG (or any other format) without destroying the quality of your images.

Ole was not satisfied with the output of his RAW-images. They look flat and not as colorful/sharp as the JPEG version from his camera look.

I gave him a few tips on how to use the built in “Camera profiles” that comes with Lightroom. They are developed to mimic the cameras look of your photos as if you were shooting in JPEG-mode, sort of (You can read more about Lightroom camera profiles in another post I’ve made).

Unfortunately the camera profiles didn’t make his RAW photos look like the JPEG ones, so I made a special preset that just makes your photos a little brighter, more colorful and with a little more contrast. A perfect preset to start with when you’ve just imported your photos into Lightroom. (Note: If you’ve set your camera to overexpose +1 step, I suggest you change the exposure adjustment value in this preset to “zero”. Otherwise you’ll probably end up with photos that are way to overexposed).

It’s difficult for me to describe them, I prefer a retro style so i tried to make some presets that will make my pictures a little bit like retro. This “yoshkiRetroGreenLightenUp” preset is great for pics taken without flash when for example a face of a person go shades or is a liitle too dark, You can still set a lower exposure if after using this preset the picture is too bright. I’ve been soo busy the last couple of months that I almost feel bad for you guys. I’ve been shooting lots of funny things including jewelry and some maternity photos. I bring my camera everywhere I go actually. If I don’t, I’m afraid i will miss an opportunity to “catch” a moment :-)

I’ve been using Lightroom 3 for some time now and I must say it’s really a good investment if you’re into photography and been using LR 2 before. The improvements of noise reduction is my absolute favorite among all other great news in LR3.

Today I’ve made a new preset called YellowGreen! It makes your photos brighter with a soft tone of “yellow-green” and some purple :-) Since most of you probably still using Lightroom 2 I’ve made two versions of this preset. One for LR2 and one for LR3.

Yesterday I was on a seminar about web trends and took some photos. The light in the room wasn’t good enough to take photos without using a flash. Still, I took some test-shots before I turned my flash on and the result was not satisfying at all. In fact, some of the photos was so bad you couldn’t see what was on them. Fortunately I had my external flash with me and was able to take some really nice shots on this day. But, imagine you just had one shot and no flash this time and your photo turned into blackness… Well, the camera always sees more than your eyes can handle. So with this in mind I took one of the really bad test-shots that were taken during this event and made a quick and dirty preset just to make the invisible information in the photo visible.

Dark images are low on color information so when they get lightened up in a software like Lightroom, they will get “grainy”. It’s like taking a photo in the dark with really high ISO value with your camera. Grain/noise will appear and this is unavoidable in most cases. This preset lighten up the dark photo and reduce the grain/noise a lot.  Use it when you really need to see what’s behind the scenes in a “black” photo.
