Today we have the pleasure to present our first free preset made for Lightroom 4! In fact, this preset is available in three versions. One for Lightroom 3, one for Lightroom 4 and finally a preset for Adobe Camera Raw 6.5 for those without Lightroom :-)

This preset is a freebie from one of 14 professional presets that can be purchased from our Propresets.com shop.
If you think this one looks good, you should definitely check out the rest of this master kit. It’s called “Modern Nostalgia” and can be found here with different before & after images.

A big pack of free Lightroom presets from William

Once again we have a new great contribution of Lightroom presets! This time William, a wedding & portrait photographer from Maryland, has sent us a great set of presets. I let him explain them himself:

“I thought I’d send in some presets that we use here in the studio all the time. There are three sets.”

1. HDR Effect
There’s four of them, delivering various levels of the same effect. By themselves they won’t look so great. They’re designed to be applied after using another preset, dealing with color and tone is used. Try them out and you’ll see what I mean. In some situations, they will produce a ghosting effect around high contrast edges, so you have to know when to use them, but our clients usually love the results, even though they have no idea why. Specific adjustment to blacks, exposure and saturation/vibrance will usually be necessary.

2. Common Basic Adjustments
These are a simple set of presets that apply varying degrees of only one setting. We use these all the time for quick adjustments to lots of similar images. Rather than selecting a lot of images and making adjustments to the sliders, which can sometimes produce unpredictable results, just a few clicks on these presets speeds things up a lot, in our experience.

3. Style Assortment
This is a set of three stylized presets which we don’t use a whole lot anymore, but have gotten a lot of love in the past. They are basic adjustments to split toning, tone curve and post-crop vignette.

In this post we will only show you the preview of what the Style Assortment presets look like.

Once again I’ve got a great contribution with presets from a Photographer named Chris! With this set of totally 28 (!) presets you can really save some time during your post-processing. Try them out on different photos and you’ll learn how to use them to get the most out of them. Some work better on dark photos while some of them work best on lighter ones. They are intended to work best on portraits and wedding shots, but I was curious to try them out on a different kind of photo that I took in Venice a couple of month ago.Presets in action

Make your photos look professional in B&W

Hello dear reader!
This week I visited an old friend of mine. I brought my camera (as always) and took some photos of their lovely kids. The newest member of the family is “Meja”. She was curious about that big camera lens in front of her face. Her head and eyes followed it all the time. Who said it was hard to take photos of kids? hehe

When I looked at the pictures in my camera I got so eager to get home to see them in a bigger format. Back at home I imported them to Lightroom and directly started to play around with them. I think these kind of photos are almost meant to be in black and white. It really makes them beautiful. So I started by applying my popular preset called “Naturally BW” and from there I made some adjustments. The end result became this new preset called “PH Childhood BW”. This one is definitely one of my best presets so far (hopefully one of your favorites too), in fact I think it’s so good that people would actually pay for it ;-)

Just when you thought you had all kinds of black & white presets, these popped up. Nate from wonderlandpresets.com has contributed a lot to Presets Heaven before. I’m sure many of you already have some of his creations in you collection of Lightroom presets. This time he sent me a pack of 6 free black & white presets, exclusively for presetsheaven.com! These are all part of his Wonderland 3.0 collection.

Nate’s goal was to create a quiver of black and white preset options that were not over the top, but still offered some edge.

A preset that goes dark in black and white

It has been some time now since I published a new preset. I’m sorry about that but I’ve been totally filled up with work and planning. I felt I just had to give you a new preset before the week end. This preset preset is called PH Dark & Light BW. I think it works great on some of my holiday photos. They tend to look more like an old postcard when I apply this preset. Enjoy.Preset in action

12 Black & White film emulation presets for Kodak B&W films!

It’s not the first time I publish presets from MikeyG. He just sent me his latest bundle of presets. His previous film emulation presets has been very popular out there and this time you won’t be disappointed either. All 12 presets are for Kodak B&W films, and each film emulsion has 3 presets; a standard develop preset that sets the basic development of the image, an Auto develop preset that allows Lightroom to automatically develop them image, and a curve preset that leaves the basic development alone, only changing tone curve and the color mixer.9 of these presets are completely new, having only been released as individual presets at his blog http://lifeindigitalfilm.blogspot.com, and 3 presets were previously released in his B&W preset pack that I released back in October. Those 3 have been tuned a bit and a curve only preset has been added. If each preset is counted the release is 36 presets for 12 different film stocks.

My presets are completely free, under a creative commons license, and are designed to provide a free alternative to the Photoshop film emulation plug-ins. I put about 5-10 hours into each preset emulation to try to get it as authentic as possible. I use my presets daily, as my photography business specializes in film and film simulation, it is my “look”. I want to release them to get as many people able to utilize them as possible, it makes me feel better about my effort poured into them.

I have been releasing these on my blog, however I have gotten nowhere near the reaction to them that I got from the 2 releases so far on PresetsHeaven. I appreciated the posting of those sets, and in the future I will only release sets, other than on my blog, through PresetsHeaven or after you choose not to utilize them.

Michael is a photographer who is devoted to black and white film. You might have seen some of his work on his flickr page. He posted this collection of presets in the presetsheaven flickr group. Shortly after, he contacted me and said I could post his work here if I liked it. And I did so here it is;. The collection of MikeyGs Black and White Film presets.This is Michael’s first release of this set and he says it’s not complete. I don’t know what he is talking about because it includes 34 (!!) presets already, each one for a different film type look.

The presets are available in two versions, one with auto toning and the other one without.
I just show you a preview of the set without the Auto toning, but of course both versions are included in the zipfile you download.

Naturally BW – The sweetest black and white preset so far

Yesterday, me and my girlfriend was out driving the car when we suddenly saw this cute bull on the side of the road. “STOP THE CAR, I have to take photo of him!”. At first he was a bit careful and reserved but then he slowly walked towards us. I took some snapshots before we went home. Inside of Lightroom later this day, I started to play around with the settings on the photos and came up with a pretty sweet preset that really works well on all my other photos as well. A success like this must be shared to the rest. So here it is; PH Naturally BW…

Guess what!?

Recently Giovanni Antico (a Lightroom lover like myself) sent me his own made Infrared Lightroom preset. I just had to try it out before I put it here. So here we go… Oh, Giovanni gets an extra star for mentioning PresetsHeaven on a seminar in Italy sponsored Adobe!

This is a preset for simulating the look of infrared photography with black and white film, pushing detail and the appearance of grain. It converts in gray tones, giving vivid brightness for tints coming from reds, yellows and greens, while strongly darkening tones coming from blues. It makes contrast strong and shadows deep. It tweeks a bit Camera calibration: play with the tint slider under Shadows for quick variations.

These are my first Lightroom presets with the exploiting name “Infrared“. The usability of these presets might not be the best when it comes to professional photographers editing (they usually not like big modifications of photos). But hey, I believe most people don’t have to call themselves professionals to be able to make good results in what they do. So to all “I-love-presets” folks out there… here comes my first compilation of infrared presets. I’m working on a color-tinted infrared set as well, so stay tuned for that one coming soon.

Ruben is back! This time he sent me the “Daido Moriyama Kit“. It’s a collection of 4 free presets with different amounts of the effect. These presets makes a gritty harsh black and white effect to use with high-ISO photos. They are perfect for photos you take during night on the street. Those times you wish you had a light sensitive lens, but instead had to use high ISO with the result of grainy pictures. Try them out yourself and you’ll see they come in handy…
