Faded film look preset for Lightroom

Hi all!

Here’s two great presets that Brant Smith submitted to share with the rest of you. He calls them Faded film look and if you have a peek at the preview images below I think you understand why.  I like the way they creates a vintage feeling. The applied soft and gentle tones makes these two presets great for its purpose. Will probably be in my fav-list of presets :-) Thanks Brant.

  1. I am trying to download a few of these free presets to try out and each one that I download says “file is corrupted or cannot be unzipped”. I have tried downloading presets off of other sites and have been able to, but then have difficulty opening up the preset, as it is not allowing me to choose lightroom as the program to open up in. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated, as I am quite frustrated and was looking forward to trying some new presets out.

  2. Thank you very much for presets.I was looking for presets for lightroom, finally i found it in your web site thank you very much.

  3. hello! i’m having a problem importing this into lightroom. it’s telling me “this is not the right kind of preset” and won’t import it. i have been looking around for this faded film preset for lightroom for so long and would love to be able to get it. any suggestions on what could be wrong?

  5. im havong the same problem with so many presets i just downloaded from here. i cant import them… im using LR 3.2, unziped files, but they are not recognized to be imported

  6. Came here to thank you for the presets. I can now customize the custom presets. I was having hard time with the fading till I saw what was needed to be done in the “Tone Curve” section. It acted as a tutorial. So once again, you have my gratitude.

  7. I am having issues importing presets also. After dowloading this (and other) presets, i try to open the zip file and extract the files but it tells me that the “file is invalid” or that the “zipped folder is empty”.

  8. First, thank you for these two presets. My favorites by far. I’ve been looking to get this look in LR instead of having to export to PS. What I can’t figure out is how to raise the black point of the tonal curve as in these results. How do you “release” it to give the low contrast haze in the shadows. This one feature is why I have to use PS.

  9. i have found it very usefull but the only problem is that i dont understand how to change that brown color effect to another color.

  10. I love these presets, especially as they are displayed above – but when I use the S Curve Color one, I’m getting a much different result – it looks strange on the photos I’m using that have similar colors and exposure as the SOOC above. I am using Lightroom 4 – is there maybe an updated version of this one?

  11. Pierre thank you very much for these presets. I just used the B/W version on one of my photos and I just can’t stop looking at it. It looks magical.. The film looks are the best ones, thank you again :)

  12. Getting a very different effect on the photos I try this on. It seems to lack the “pop” the second photo on this page shows. Anyone know how to fix it?

  13. OMG i LOVE this website thank you so much Pierre! You really helped me figure out white balance in lightroom and these are lovely presets!!

  14. Hey, I have Lightroom 3, and the downloads work just fine – they’re in my documents and everything – but when I go to import them on Lightroom, the files don’t appear at all. Am I doing something wrong?

    Thanks again!

  15. Woah, this is great! The website is actually a heaven to me.
The preset is amazing! I’ve been looking for this for a long time. X

  16. I’m having trouble layering presets. I thought this preset would be like a filter applied to a picture I’ve already made changes to, but it seems as though it overrides all original changes. Am I doing something wrong?

  17. I use the S-Color Curve preset ALL of the time. Most of my other presets started with this particular one, and I just love it. Thanks so much for sharing it!

  18. Hi Pierre!! Thank you so much for this preset! It’s wonderfull and fantastic! So deep and soft colors! I searched something like that a few years, but now when You made it possible and I find it – I can’t to download it now(( may be link are crashed? Please help..may be another link? *crying*

  19. Hello! I have a lot of your presets of this site, loaded into my Lightroom 3. I have just updated my lightroom 3 to lightroom 5. Will these presets still work properly?

  20. Hi Meghan,
You shouldn’t have any problems using the old presets unless you apply one and then press the “exclamation mark” and upgrade it to the latest process version (LR5 with all its new adjustment sliders). In some occasions that might result an a little different look (most of the time you will loose some contrast and brightness, from my own experience).
    Thanks, Pierre

  21. Hi there

Not sure if you’re still replying to these messages, but thought I should try… I’m not able to import the faded film look – which is absolutely gorgeous. Any idea why?

    Thanks,
    Axelle

  22. Hi Axelle,
Not sure what might be the cause. Did you extract (.zip-archive) the files before you did the import?
